SOJITSU: Resonance / Hibiku

Tokyo, Japan, 2009 | Interior

For this residential project at Sojitsu, the character ʺResonance / Hibikuʺ was made on a single canvas, which was later designed as the hanging partition wall, tsuri-fusuma. In taking away the element of the frame, and to embed the character into the partition wall, it allows us to interact with the piece in a unique way, which is different from if it were hung on a wall in a conventional frame. This work opens up the idea of treating calligraphy as more than a static art piece on the wall, as to allow function to be a part of it as well.
