Nomura Proud: Experiencing the Inverse

For the Nomura Proud Residence, all of the traditional aspects of Japanese Calligraphy were inverted to provide a striking contrast which signals the home's experimental approach towards the traditional concept of a home. The twists and turns of the brushwork, combined with the use of white ink on black paper signal this inversion. Though most of the ancient techniques which form the tradition of calligraphy are maintained in the work, a few simple changes in media are made to transform this insistence on tradition into a bold embrace of newly emerging ideas and ways of life.
