In these pieces, Noriko uses the rich black sumi ink to sculpt an air of dignified strength natural warmth. This paradoxically bold rendition of the word mu (nothing) invites the viewer to enter a moment of meditation, entirely devoid of passing cares and concerns. The observer is drawn to take a deep breath of this soothing air. The eye journeys over the delicate fringe of the characters deeply embossed into the washi paper’s course fibers. When you see everything, you need nothing.
